Overview
British Columbia has successfully been a location for Film and Television Production since the 1970s. Over the past three plus decades, the Industry has grown to earning an average of $1.2 billion dollars per year and employing 25,000+ BC residents. Or at least that's what we believe.
The government is questioning our numbers, so we’re going to use PlaceSpeak to get to the facts. In order to obtain verifiable feedback data to inform the provincial government about the facts of the industry, we want people to sign up for PlaceSpeak and be counted.
We want to hear from you!
25,000 people are estimated to work in the motion picture production industry in British Columbia. Are you one of those people?
We are calling all crew members, performers, suppliers, professionals, service personnel and others who work directly or indirectly with the motion picture production industry to be counted.
PlaceSpeak connects you to place, so we can see the spatial distribution of film folks in B.C. Do most of us live in the lower mainland? What is the truth?
The Provincial Government disputes our data, so we need to become consistent with their analytical systems so we can be counted properly. The government questions our numbers, let’s prove them.
PlaceSpeak is different from signing a petition because it verifies people to their address and generates defensible feedback data. Connecting on PlaceSpeak is not a one-shot deal but an ongoing way to obtain more direct information, and be notified of new developments.
PlaceSpeak is different than posting on FaceBook because it is not anonymous and anecdotal. You can’t edit or delete your posts, because they are an important part of the public record.
Get us the real numbers!
We need verifiable information. Help us come up with the data to defend our position. To rebut the government’s position, let us show them that we are real people and these are solid numbers.
